Longwood Theatre will present Zero to Sixty, the university’s fifth annual 10-minute playwriting competition, on March 29-31 at 7 p.m. and April 1 at 3 p.m. in the Lab Theatre in the Center for Communication Studies and Theatre. Longwood theatre students direct, design and perform the productions. The six plays to be presented are selected by students in the Creative Writing program in a national search. All tickets are $5. Greg McBride Wins 2012 Liam Rector First Book Prize for Poetry

First, thanks to all for their patience in the delay of this announcement. We had a death in the prize family, and as such, we appreciate your kindness in waiting.
We’re pleased to announce the 2012 winner of The Liam Rector First Book Prize for Poetry:
Porthole by Greg McBride
of Silver Spring, MD
The winner will receive an honorarium of $1000, and publication by Briery Creek Press, to be released in Spring 2012.
Of Mr. McBride’s winning collection, our final judge, Adrian Louis writes:
“McBride’s is a mature voice, historical, compassionate, tender and visionary…”
All entrants will receive a copy of the winning book after its release in Spring 2012. Reading for the Liam Rector Prize for 2013 begins February 1, 2012.

Liam Rector Prize & Dos Passos Review 8.1
Prize notification for the Liam Rector First Book Prize for Poetry has been moved a little into July. We have sent off the poetry manuscripts to our judge. We’ll notify the winner as soon as we get word from our illustrious final judge, as well as announcing it here and on our Facebook page.
Dos Passos Review 8.1 goes to the printers tomorrow, and the contributor’s copies will be sent out shortly after Independence Day.
